At Luxey Square, we pride ourselves on professional artificial grass installation across Melbourne, ensuring every project looks flawless and lasts for years. While we always recommend professional installation for the best results, here’s our step-by-step process — the same method our experts use on-site.
Step 1: Measure the Area
Accurate measurements are key to a perfect fit.
- Measure to the widest and longest points of your lawn.
- Add an extra 10 cm on each side to allow for trimming and alignment.
- Plan where seams will fall for large areas wider than 4 metres.
Step 2: Gather Tools & Materials
Before starting, prepare all tools and materials:
- Crushed rock (20 mm) and cracker dust (5 mm)
- Perimeter edging boards
- Compactor and measuring tape
- Seam tape and adhesive (for wider areas)
- Utility knife, broom or power brush
- Silica sand infill
Step 3: Prepare the Ground
A stable, level base ensures durability and drainage.
- Remove existing grass or debris to 8-10 cm depth.
- Add 8-10cm of crushed rock, then compact it.
- Install edging to keep turf secure and tidy.
- Compact and smooth the surface evenly.
Step 4: Lay the Artificial Grass
- Unroll turf and position it with the pile facing the same direction.
- Leave 10 cm overlap at all edges for trimming.
- Cut from the backing side using a sharp utility knife for clean, straight edges.
Step 5: Join & Secure Seams
For wider areas requiring multiple rolls:
- Fold edges back, apply adhesive seam tape between rolls.
- Align and press firmly for a smooth joint.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours before heavy use.
Step 6: Add Sand Infill
Finish with a professional touch:
- Evenly spread 8–10 kg of silica sand per m².
- Brush the sand against the grain so fibres stand upright.
- This stabilises the turf, prevents movement, and extends lifespan.
